A man called Adam - All My Favorite Things

If there were a united nations of revellers, and they were to gather on a beach in Ibiza to watch the sunrise, then A Man Called Adam's All My Favourite... would be the ideal backdrop to chilled-out post-club musings. A beautiful, genre-defying collection of songs, including some favourite classics from the 90s and some from the earlier Duende, this is music that glows. Every track sets its own mood, drawing from global influences in surprising and inventive ways, such as the spicy hip-swinging Latin flavour of "Yachts", the haunting African vocals on "Earthsings", or the jazzy, St Germain-esque vibe of "Techno Powers". Chunky, electronic dance beats sit comfortably with acid jazz, house and more simple melodies on the album, all of which are held together by the soulful lyrics that stem from the Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones partnership. Rodgers' vocal style has echoes of Madonna, particularly on "People Rule", which wouldn't sound out of place on Music, but with a warmth and resonance that is sometimes missing from the queen of pop. Comparisons with Everything But The Girl, Zero 7 and Massive Attack can be made, but All My Favourite… is a strikingly unique collection of sublime, sun-filled tracks with a chill-out vibe like no other. Capturing the magic and wonder of greeting a new day with sand between your danced-out toes on a Balearic island.
